About

Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is used to dilute or dissolve drugs for injection and allows for repeated withdrawals from a multi-dose vial.

Mechanism of Action

The benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative, inhibiting the growth of most potentially contaminating bacteria, thus allowing for multiple uses of a single vial.

Key Benefits

  • Sterile solvent for reconstitution
  • Allows for multi-dose use of vials
  • Inhibits bacterial growth

Clinical Research

Bacteriostatic Water is a standard and widely accepted diluent in medical and research settings for preparing injectable solutions.

Potential Side Effects

Generally safe when used as directed. Not for use in newborns as benzyl alcohol can be toxic to them. Should not be used for intrathecal or epidural injection.

Usage & Dosage

Used as a solvent to reconstitute lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides or other drugs to the desired concentration according to the specific research protocol.

Peptide Storage

Store at controlled room temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F).
